YEAR-IN-REVIEW
1998-1999
NORTHFIELD-LINWOOD KIWANIS
OCTOBER
- Sponsor the Key Club at Mainland Regional High School and the
Builders' Clubs at Belhaven Avenue School in Linwood and the Northfield
Community School.
- Adopt-a-Road programs in Linwood and Northfield have been ongoing
throughout the year.
- Clean the area adjacent to the lake in Bargaintown on Zion Road.
- Clean Shore Road in Linwood between House and Garden Dept. Store
and the post office.
- MRHS Key Club members participated at a haunted house at the
Jordan Road School with donations going to the American Pediatric
Cancer Center.
- Northfield Builders' Club collected for disaster relief for
the American Red Cross on Halloween Night. The funds which they
collected will go toward disaster relief in Puerto Rico.
- Participated in the CROP Walk on October 19th.
- Ran games at the Octoberfest at Birch Grove Park.
- Directed traffic at the MRHS Band Competition
- Worked at Seaview Avenue School to complete the landscape design.
- Participated in MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY by preparing the lawn
areas and flower beds for the Linwood Public School.
- Donation of $500.00 toward the IDD Campaign.
- Visited the children in the pediatric ward at Shore Memorial
Hospital on Halloween evening to distribute toys, coloring books,
crayons, games, puzzles, stickers, and stuffed teddy bears.
- Visited the Intensive Care Unit at Shore Memorial Hospital to
bring good cheer to the children there.
- Taught CCD classes at Catholic church.
- Participation in perpetual adoration at Our Lady of Sorrows
R. C. Church.
- Donation of $100.00 to A. C. Rescue Mission for Thanksgiving
dinners.
- Donation to the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters for their Basket Bingo.
- Donation of $175.00 to JOBY Leadership Workshop for high school
students.
- Donation to the Art Dorrington Ice Hockey Foundation.
NOVEMBER
- Moved and planted sod at the Seaview Avenue School Courtyard
project to beautify the area with the installation of sidewalks,
a pergola, a stage, underground sprinklers, sod and shrubbery.
- Key Club set up Christmas trees at the Shore Mall for the S.
J. AIDS Alliance. They also collected money for the March of Dimes
to create one-quarter mile of coins. Represents $3000.00
- Donation to the A. C. Rescue Mission to pay for one meal for
the residents.
- Donation of socks, underwear, and clean towels to the A. C.
Rescue Mission.
- Purchase small gifts to be distributed to the elderly women
at the CARING facility.
- Cooked and served a full Thanksgiving dinner to the youngsters
at the JINS Center in Northfield.
- Provided the trophy to the winning football team at the annual
Thanksgiving game between Mainland and Egg Harbor Township High
School. Coaches and selected players also attend a luncheon held
in their honor at the Linwood Country Club.
- Key Club began making weekly visits to the A. C. Rescue Mission
to read to small children, and to help older children with homework.

- Dedicated the Freedom Shrine containing replicas of America's
archival documents at the Northfield Community School.
- Attended an inter-faith service at Congregation Beth-El to

- Painted the Parish Hall at Christ Church in Somers Point.
- Prepared and serve a Thanksgiving Feast to teens at the JINS
Shelter in Northfield.
- Ran a Babysitting and Child Safety Course at Mainland Reg.

DECEMBER
- Continued the finishing touches on the courtyard at the Seaview
Avenue School in Linwood, gazebo, stage, underground sprinklers,
shrubs, landscaping, and sod.
- Club members purchased gifts for the elderly at CARING, Inc.
- Continue the perpetual adoration at Our Lady of Sorrows R. C.
Church.
- Painting and repairs at Christ Church in Somers Point. Clean
the apartment, change the bed linen and towels.
- Serve as ushers at church. Clean up after services and prepare
for coffee hour.
- Donated wrapped Christmas gifts to the teens at the JINS Shelter.
The gifts were purchased by the members.
- Donation to the Linwood Basketball Tournament.
- Donated stuffed animals and dolls to the pediatric unit at Shore
Memorial Hospital.
- Visited the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital, brought cookies
and good cheer.
- Donated $500.00 to the Pediatric Trauma Center Training program.
- Birthday gifts to the Kiwanis International and District Foundations---$2.00
per member.
- Donated $75.00 to the Boy Scouts for trophies and awards at
the Scout Show.
- Began efforts to start a Circle K Club at Atlantic Cape Community
College.
JANUARY
- Collected winter coats from friends, members and neighbors for
the Atlantic City Rescue Mission.
- Perpetual adoration at R. C. Church.
- Clean apartment and change linen for visiting priests at Episcopal
Church.
- Serve as ushers, count collection, and serve coffee at social
hours at churches and synagogues.
- Paid for and accompanied football players and coaches to the
Annual Banquet at the Seaview Marriot Resort.
FEBRUARY
- Kiwanis members served as judges for the Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts
Scout-a-Rama at the Shore Mall. We purchased the trophies and
ribbons awarded to the Scouts.
- Donated socks, underwear and winter coats to the Atlantic City
Rescue Mission.
- Painted the Rector's Office, foyer, and two hallways at Christ
Church.
- Purchased an American flag, stand, protective cover, and parade
belt for the Mainland Regional H. S. Band.
- Purchased and donated a Sony Playstation with eleven CD games
to the pediatric wing at Shore Memorial Hospital.
- The Key Club visited the elderly at the Linwood Convalescent
Center to conduct crafts classes.
- The Builders' Clubs conducted a food drive of canned goods for
the food bank. They donated their hair to "Locks of Love" which
transforms their hair into wigs and hair pieces for patients undergoing
chemotherapy.
MARCH
- collected and donated underwear to the Atlantic City Rescue
Mission.
- Adopt-a-Road Clean-up on Zion Road in Northfield.
- Cleaned the kitchen at Christ Church in Somers Point.
- Bowling party for the youngsters in the JINS Shelter.
- Each member "Skipped-a-Meal" and donated the cost of that meal
to the IDD campaign.
- Club sold raffle tickets for the Children's Miracle Network
to raise funds for a pediatric wing.
- Builders' Club held a food drive for the local food bank.
APRIL
- Continue to collect donations of new underwear for the A. C.
Rescue Mission.
- Adopt-a-Road Clean-Up on Zion Road in Northfield.
- Raised charity dollars in the Muscular Sclerosis Walk-a-thon.
- Cleaned the kitchen at the Central Methodist Church.
- Constructed stage backdrops for the Belhaven School Band.
- Organized and ran a fishing tournament for youngsters at Birch
Grove Park in Northfield. Our club purchased and awarded the prizes
and ribbons.
- Donation to the alcohol-free After-Prom Party at Mainland Reg.
H. S.
- Donated a VCR to the Child Development Classes at Mainland.
- Purchased much-needed diapers for the South Jersey AIDS Alliance.
- Participated in the AIDS Alliance Walk to raise money for their
charity.
- Distributed canisters to collect money for the Red Cross Kosovo
refugees.
- Participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl-a-thon to
assist them in raising charity dollars.
- Collected pop-tops for the Epiphany Lutheran Church charity
drive.
MAY
- Participated in the American Heart Association Heartwalk to
raise charity dollars. - $730.00.
- Staffed a rest area for the MS Bike Tour.
- March in Memorial Day Parade and distributed peanuts to parade
watchers.
- Donation to Big Brothers/ Big Sisters.
- Donation to Epiphany Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
- Walked in the American Cancer Society LifeWalk at EHTHS - raised
$380.00.
- Visited pediatric wing at Shore Memorial Hospital with stuffed
bunnies, coloring books, crayons, puzzles, watches, stickers,
etc.
JUNE
- Adopt-a-Road Clean-Up in Linwood on Shore Road.
- Powerwash and paint the Linwood Historical Society Building.
- Collected pop-tops from soda cans for the Epiphany Lutheran
Church for a charity drive.
- Donation to the Epiphany Lutheran Church Food Pantry - $25.00
- Worked at the After-Prom Celebration at Mainland Reg. H. S.
from midnight to six a.m.
- Awarded three $1000.00 scholarships to graduating seniors -
one to Holy Spirit and two to Mainland.
- Donation of $200.00 to the Children's Federation.
JULY
- Adopt-a-Road Clean-Up on Zion Road in Northfield.
- Donation of one hundred dollars to restore electric service
to a local woman with AIDS who is unemployed and has two, small
children.
- Collect pop-tops from aluminum cans for the benefit of the Epiphany
Lutheran Church fundraiser.
- Donation of $200.00 to the Adam Reed Eagle Scout Project to
build an announcement board at the Linwood ball field.
- Donation of $200.00 to the Atlantic County Women's Center -
Child Care Network for diapers, formula, blankets and pajamas.
- Donation of $390.00 to IDD which qualifies for a Kiwanis Tablet
of Honor.
- Erected a plaque at the Kiwanis Park II at the Seaview Avenue
School.
AUGUST
- Adopt-a-Road Clean-Up on Zion Road in Northfield.
- Donation of non-perishable food items by Kiwanis members to
the Epiphany Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
- Hosted youngsters age 12-17 from the JINS Shelters at a baseball
game at the Sandcastle Stadium in Atlantic City. We bought sodas,
hot dogs, souvenirs, etc. -Donation of a large carton of diapers
to the Atlantic County Food Bank.
SEPTEMBER
- Hosted the fire and rescue squads from Northfield and Linwood
at lunch at the Linwood Country Club. Donated $100.00 each to
the two rescue squads and the two fire companies.
- Donation to the Epiphany Lutheran Church Food Pantry of $52.00
from member donations and non-perishable food items from our members.
- Donation of baby food, formula, and milk to a single mother
with two children at the County Women's Shelter - Child Care Network
in Northfield
- Peanut Days fundraiser.
- John Davis received the Tablet of Honor at the installation
dinner. This was given for his outstanding work in our club.
