Discipleship Training and Prayer Practices
How does somebody grow up into Christ, the way the Apostle Paul calls for maturity in Ephesians 4:15? But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into him who is the head, even Christ. There are many pathways to such maturity. They all are centered in Christ and move from a strong biblical base. When Jesus was teaching his disciples, he instructed them, then sent them out to experience. When he called them back together they talked about what happened. He gave them wise counsel for further maturity. That is that essence of Discipleship Training led by Pastor Frank Reeder on Wednesday evenings.
Prayer Practices, facilitated by Pastor Dan Dutton, opens the learner to come and grow deep in ways to speak and hear from God. In Joshua 1:8 we read This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. The Word of God is at the heart of any good prayer practices. Silence is also important as we are exhorted in Psalm 46:10 to Be still (cease striving) and to know God. In this stillness we seek to be filled with God’s holy presence as was Jesus when he went alone to the mountains to pray.
